Our pride and joy, Grandma Nakadai, who is over 100 years old, is hard at work today! ✨ She carefully dries many Akebia vines by hand. These Akebia vines are used in “Akebia Boil,” a dish that is essential for New Year’s dishes and the spring equinox. This year, our ancestors will once again board Akebia boats to return home and spend a heartwarming moment together ⛩️. This tradition has become an important offering to the Buddhist altar for the people of Yamagata Prefecture, and is passed down from parent to child. The Akebia vines made by Grandma Nakadai have been loved by the local community for many years and will continue to support the culture .
